On To Ufton

We woke this morning with our feet feeling that they were higher than our heads (we have a cross bed).
Once  we got up we realised we were sat on a fair old tilt, we were only moored about 100 metres from the lock so I walked up and opened the paddles and went back to the boat for my Shreddies.

It didn't take long before we had enough water to float off.

So off we went on  today's marathon.  We moored behind this boat last night, it looks like he is re building it under the bridge!

He even has his own little garden ...

Through the Newbury swing bridge ...

Underneath the the Newbury budget version of the Rialto Bridge ...

We passed one boat on the narrows, it must be fun when the river is in flood!

We stopped at Tesco and did a bit of a shop.

We then teamed up with a  boat until they pulled up at Thatcham.
They were a very nice Aussie couple from Melbourne who have leased the boat for 6 months ... the cost, £8000.00  - still cheaper than a weekly renter, but still a bit exy, I reckon.  On their admission it is a bit of a ropey old boat.  We had a good old chat with them ... they go back down under on 10th September, but if it wasn't for their children over there they would much rather stay in the UK!

He did have the K and A curse though....tying up the boat in a lock when sharing...why?!

Bit of a squeeze getting past these guys ...

But squeeze past we did.

Approaching Aldermaston lift bridge just after 17.30 ...

This was without a doubt the most traffic that we had held up at a bridge ...

Elaine working the controls ...

We finally pulled up after a long day near Ufton swing bridge.

Nice mooring with a good satellite signal ...

So Elaine has had an early night, leaving me to do the blog and watch the ........

FOOTBALL....Woohoo.

Nearly forgot, earlier in the year (May) we met our  two favourite TV personalities in Lymm.

Tonight the episode they were filming of Location Location Location was on the box, in the background of some of the location shots was the mighty Caxton.

Flash back shot to May ...

Kirstie was grimacing because I had my hand on her arse !   (OK, not really!)
