A Visit To Cabrera

As expected the rain didn't last long and we awoke to clear skies, but it was a bit on the chilly side ...

The dogs were enjoying the sun on the balcony ...

When I took the dogs for a walk I got chatting to a northern chap from Pontefract, Yorkshire, who was over looking for a property to buy.  He told me about a village up in the hills behind Mojacar, which was an exclusive development built in the early 80s but keeping the houses to a Moorish design.  They were going up there to check out a couple of places for sale.

As we had no plans for the day we decided to take a drive up there at midday.

It was about a twenty minute drive from our pad, the climb to the village was up a very steep and narrow road ...

Once we reached the top....wow what a place, the villas were superb!

The view wasn't too shabby either ...

A lot of the villas hang off the sides of cliffs ...

This is the entrance to the village, and is the hub for the locals ...

Even the boys enjoyed the view ...

This is the petanque court ...

Behind the court stand some ruins.  The village dates back thousands of years, but was abandoned a few hundred years ago, until redeveloped in the 80s ...

It is without a doubt the best development we have seen in Spain ...

Interestingly, you can buy a very nice villa, with pool, for about 160,000 pounds!

Which I think it pretty good value for a quality villa.

So now to the downside.....

There are no Spanish in the village, just poms who, let's say are getting on a bit!  We were the youngest people in the village by far!

To get to it you have to drive up a 'goat track', there are no buses at all.  There are a couple of bars and restaurants but no shops whatsoever, you cannot even  buy a pint of milk.

If you want total quiet and seclusion then this is the place for you.

The only sounds to hear are the old poms falling off the perch!

Nice to visit, but to live there....no chance.

We will finish with Elaine's artistic shot of the day ...
